1316952 Organic isocyanates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 June 1970 [24 June 1969 24 April 1970] 31892/69 and 19852/70 Headings C2C and C2P Organic isocyanates are prepared by reacting an organic halide containing at least one aliphatically bound halogen atom (including those cycloaliphatically bound) with an alkali or alkaline earth metal or ammonium or methyl- or ethyl-substituted ammonium cyanate in the presence of iodine, an iodine chloride, bromine or mixtures thereof as catalyst. The process may be carried out in a solvent and the temperature is preferably in the range 100-160‹ C. |
