Animal feed is prepd. in a process using ingredients derived from animal residues not suitable for human consumption, dead animals, bones, fats, rind, bristles and similar. The ingredients are chopped, dried and packed as grains. The novelty is that, in addition to the ingredients derived from animals which have been slaughtered or died from natural causes, the feed incorporates uneaten human food derived from catering and food processing facilities; further that the freshly uneaten human food is collected, dried, and then mixed into the matter derived from dead animals, before it is sterilised and further processed. The raw ingredients derived from dead animals represents 90-60% by wt., while the raw ingredients derived from uneaten human food represents 10-40% by weight. The ratio of the dried food from dead animals to dried human food residues, is in the range 60:40 to 90:10% by weight. Also claimed is an assembly for the prodn. of animal feed pellets in which the raw materials are held in bunkers, with a conditioner, mixer, crusher and drier. The novelty is that a human food dewatering unit (12) is positioned after the human food bunker (10), and parallel to the animal residue conditioner (6). The assembly incorporates a mixer and crusher (18) with drier (20) which are common to the food derived from animal residues and uneaten human food. |
