PURPOSE: To prevent a difference from luminance between plasma display panels(PDP) in the multi-panel type image display device employing the panel. CONSTITUTION: Number of panels, a magnification factor, and share of each panel or the like are stored in a storage section 3 and controls a display panel unit 1a of the like via a system control section 2. A video signal from a video signal input section 11 is given to a magnification section 12, a designated area is expanded and the result is given to a gamma correction control section 13, in which gamma correction is conducted by using a gamma correction coefficient read from a memory section 14 and the result is given to a PDP panel section 15. A video signal from the magnification section is given to an APL detection section 16, which detects an average luminance level(APL) and temperature data of the PDP detected by a panel temperature detection section 17 are given to an arithmetic section 18 together with the APL, in which they are calculated and the resulting data are given to a discrimination section 4 via the system control section 2 to discriminate a state of each panel 15 and corresponding control data are read from the storage section 3 and given to each gamma correction control section 13 and corresponding data are read from the memory section 14.
