1531427 Grooving tubes following injection moulding SEKISUI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 17 Dec 1975 [19 Dec 1974] 51741/75 Heading B5A Apparatus for grooving tubes comprises a split outer mould 11, 12 surrounding a core 2 having an axial projection 22 at one end, along which an auxiliary core member 23 and a sleeve 3 are slidable. In use, the apparatus is positioned as shown in Fig. 1, so as to define a mould cavity A into which a thermoplastics material is injected through a runner 4, to provide a tube end B (Fig. 2). The auxiliary core member 23 and the sleeve 3 are then slid axially along the core until meeting a stop 26 and positioned as shown in Fig. 2. The movement of the sleeve 3 has exposed an additional mould cavity 5 with the outer mould 11, 12, and positioned adjacent a fluid channel 27 opened up between the auxiliary and core members 23, 2. Fluid is passed through fluid channels 24, 25, 27 to push the tube B into the cavity 5 to form an internal groove and external bulge. After cooling of the shaped tube, the part 12 of the outer mould is moved laterally, and the core 2, 23, 3 axially, to allow tube removal. In an alternative embodiment (see Fig. 4, not reproduced) the tube injected initially is of constant diameter, and the sleeve 3 when slid axially exposes a cavity in the mould that defines a widened diameter socket for the tube in addition to the internal groove. The pressure fluid moulds both the socket and groove. |
