PURPOSE:To save consumption of resource, energy and to reduce requirement for installation space by adopting bismuth oxide-contg. glass for a dielectric material. CONSTITUTION:A silent discharge ozone generator is constructed of an earth side electrode 3 and a high voltage side electrode 2, an electric power source 1 for generating discharge in a discharging space 5 between both electrodes by impressing high voltage across the electrodes 3, 2 a feeding element of gaseous raw material to the discharging space 5 for ozonizing oxygen in the gaseous raw material by the effect of the discharge, and a glass dielectric electrode 4a covering the earth side electrode 3 which contains 10-80wt% Bi2O3. Other components of the dielectric electrode 4a than Bi2O3 consist of, by wt%, 10-67 SiO2, <30 B2O3, <5 one or two among Na2O, K2O, and Li2O, <40 at least two among BaO, CaO, MgO, SrO, Sb2O3, and <5 one ar two among CoO, MgO, ZnO, NiO, Fe2O3, and TiO2.
