In the case of the anti-skid device for vehicle tyres, in which at least two tightening straps can be inserted predominantly in the longitudinal grooves of the tyres, anti-skid elements with a U-shaped cross-section protrude with their legs essentially radially from the tyre tread, whilst the web, which connects the legs, is supported on the tyre tread. The legs run essentially transversely with respect to the circumferential direction of the tyres so that their free ends which engage, for example, in snow and ice, prevent the tyre from slipping in particular when driving off and braking. The anti-skid elements can be connected directly to the tightening straps which are designed in particular as cables; however, it is strongly recommended to attach special supporting bodies to the tightening straps and to place the anti-skid elements, which are made of hard material, onto the supporting body. The tightening straps are connected to a hinge-like turnbuckle which clamps and secures the tightening straps in the tightened state in the special tyre grooves or optionally simply to the tyre pattern.
