Conventional devices for withdrawal of samples from bone possess a boring head which forms the front end of a rotating biopsy needle. The boring head must rotatingly cut through the soft tissue in front of the bone, and injuries may result if the tool is not guided accurately. Once the boring head has reached the bone it may jam due to thermal expansion. The biopsy set according to the invention has an external needle (10) which is displaced by a trocar arranged therein without rotation through the soft tissue into the bone (30). After removal of the trocar the hollow drilling needle (17) is pushed into the external needle (10), and the bone (30) is drilled with the annular boring head (19). The wall thickness of the boring head (19) increases toward the front end, so that the annular drilling channel is wider than the boring head which can thus be easily pulled out. The biopsy set is also suitable for removal of soft tissue samples located behind hard bone layers, in that an internal needle with a trocar is advanced through the drilled channel after the hollow drilling needle. <IMAGE>
