Sepn. of p-fluoroaniline (I) from a mixt. is carried out by (a) contacting the mixt. with a mineral acid in the presence of an org. solvent to form an insoluble salt and (b) isolating the salt. Pref. acids are HCl, H2SO4, H3PO4, HBr or HNO3. Suitable solvents are ethyl acetate, heptane, hexane and methylene chloride. The salt is pref. contacted with a base such as an aq. soln. of NaOH, KOH, Ca(OH)2, Na2CO3, K2CO3, CaO or BaO. Process (a) is carried out at 0-75, pref. 10-40 deg.C and 0-1000, pref. 0-50 psig. The salt is reacted with 1-1.5 mole of base per mole of salt at 0-60, pref. 10-24 deg.C and 0-5 psig. |
