A dual fuel engine control system for controlling the power output of a dual fuel compression ignition engine (9). The engine includes mixing means (3) for combining an oxidizer (1) and a primary fuel (4) at a substantially constant ratio of oxidizer to primary fuel. The power output of the engine is controlled through the use of a throttle valve (10) controlling the quantity of combustible mixture delivered to the combustion chamber (12). The fuel control system minimizes the quantity of ignition fuel required by controlling the quantity of combustible mixture rather than the fuel of air ratio.
