PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the spacer by which stable quality of display picture image can be secured under service circumstances varying over a wide range with a small amount of the dispersed spacer and also to provide the production of the spacer and a liquid crystal display device that is provided with the spacer and capable of maintaining stable quality of display picture image. SOLUTION: This elastic spacer has a 1 to 100μm average particle size in its total particle size distribution, wherein the standard deviation in the particle size distribution of particles having particle size smaller than the particle size mode in the total particle size distribution is less than that of particles having particle size larger than this particle size mode. This liquid crystal device is manufactured by dispersing the spacer in a liquid crystal panel and the cell gap size is equal to or smaller than the particle size mode of the spacer.
