<p>A medical sharps blade removal device comprises a base portion having at least one blade removal chamber 46 defined therein for receipt of a knife blade and handle. A blade removal mechanism is disposed within said chamber 46, said blade removal mechanism comprising members disposed to deflect the knife blade away from the knife handle in a first deflection mode and to remove the knife blade from the knife handle in a second deflection mode upon insertion and subsequent withdrawal of the knife handle from said chamber without deflection of the knife handle by a user of said device. Means are provided for indicating which of said chambers have been used, such means preferably comprising a pierceable tape member disposed across the chambers to be pierced by the blade on insertion.</p> |
