<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Ni-Ti-Nb dual-phase alloy for hydrogen separation and purification having hydrogen permeability and hydrogen embrittlement resistance and a method for manufacturing the alloy and also to provide a metal film for hydrogen separation and purification composed of the alloy and a method for manufacturing the metal film. <P>SOLUTION: The dual-phase alloy is composed of a composite phase consisting of a phase responsible for hydrogen permeability and a phase responsible for hydrogen embrittlement resistance, and the composite phase is composed of an eutectic of an NbTi phase containing Ni in the form of solid solution (the hydrogen permeability phase) and an NiTi phase containing Nb in the form of solid solution (the hydrogen embrittlement resistance phase) or composed of the eutectic and a primary phase NbTi. The alloy is composed of Ni<SB>x</SB>Ti<SB>y</SB>Nb<SB>(100-x-y)</SB>(where x=25 to 45 and y=25 to 55 ). The dual-phase alloy is manufactured by mixing Ni, Ti and Nb and melting the resultant mixture by an arc melting method etc. in an inert-gas atmosphere. The metal film is composed of the alloy.
