The invention relates to the area of study of physical and chemical properties of materials by means of electric and magnetic measurements and can be used in metallurgy and foundry. Method for determination of content of carbon in cast-irons and steels is in fact that one measures magnetization of saturation of samples of a-iron (standard) and ferro-carbon alloy controlled in the process of sample heating to temperature exceeding Curie point for cementite. Carbon content is determined through formula that includes values of magnetization of saturation for samples art heating temperature mentioned. The method makes it possible to perform express-control of content of carbon at fusion.
