PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display apparatus wherein a caption part can be operated independently of a video image. SOLUTION: The video display apparatus includes: a tuner 1; a caption separation circuit 2; a memory 3 for storing caption data; a caption control means 4; an operation means 5 (remote controller); a display control means 6; and a video display means 7. The caption control means 4 selects a caption to be displayed on the video display means 7 according to an operation signal from the operation means 5.
