The invention relates to a press/heating platen for continuously operating presses used in the production of particle boards or like material. Such presses have a flexible endless steel belt for transmitting pressure to the material and for moving the material through the press. The belt is guided by driving drums and reversing drums around upper and lower press beams and are supported with an adjustable press nip against a press/heating platen on the press beams by rollers arranged with their axes transverse to the running direction of the belt. The press/heating platen is adjustable by means of cylinder/piston arrangements disposed in rows longitudinally and transversely to the longitudinal axis of the press. In the invention, fluted grooves are moulded into the rear sides of the press/heating platens, longitudinally to the pressing zone, and also honeycombed grooves are moulded in the rear sides transversely to the pressing zone between the actuator rows. This profile provides an improved flexible two-dimensional deformation while permitting larger support spacings.
