PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of maintaining cleaning performance by a cleaning blade for over a long period even when formation of images with low printing ratio is continuously performed. SOLUTION: Developer contains charged particles with reverse polarity as that of toner and a carrier, the developing device has a first conveyance member and a second conveyance member opposite to the photoreceptor, and an electric field formation means forms a first electric field between the first conveyance means and the second conveyance means, transfers the toner in the developer of the first conveyance member to the second conveyance member, separates a part of the charged particles from the toner, collects it in the developer, forms a second electric field between the second conveyance member and the photoreceptor to transfer the toner of the second conveyance member to an electrostatic latent image of the photoreceptor. The image forming apparatus is provided with a cleaning blade which removes the transfer remaining toner on the surface of the photoreceptor and the charged particles not collected by the first electric field are stuck to the surface of the photoreceptor by the second electric field and retained in a wedge shaped space part formed with the cleaning blade.
