A method of setting and changing a receive channel set of a cable modem is provided to systematically reconfigure and manage an RCP of CM by a CMTS, thereby effectively setting and changing the receive channel set even though error occurs while setting and changing the receive channel set. An RCP(Receive Channel Profile) about a downstream physical layer of a CM(Cable Modem) is received(S100). A plurality of RCC(Receive Channel Configuration) is comprised by referring to the RCP(S103). The RCC is needed for setting the receive channel set. The RCC is encoded or transmitted to the CM(S106). The RCC comprises priority information.
