PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved washing machine and a method for operating the washing machine.SOLUTION: A washing machine 1 includes a casing 2 and a drum unit 3. The drum unit 3 includes a cylindrical container 4 and a cylindrical drum 5 which is rotatable therein around a cylindrical axis line 6. The casing 2 includes a front wall 20 which is connected to the drum unit 3 by bellows 41, and which allows the sliding of the drum unit 3. The drum unit 3 can be changed in attitude between a horizontal attitude and a vertical attitude within the casing 2 and takes the horizontal attitude during washing, the vertical attitude during dewatering, and an inclined attitude during loading and unloading of laundry so that a laundry loading/unloading opening 9 of the drum unit 3 may face a hole 21 in the front wall 20. A door 71 for closing the hole 21 and the laundry loading/unloading opening 9 together is pivotally attached to the front wall 20. As a washing program flow progresses, the drum unit 3 is controlled so as to take an attitude adapted to each of the operations of washing, rinsing, dewatering and so on.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
