PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow for local and continuous oscillation of terahertz band electromagnetic wave, with a configuration of extremely simple and compact size of 1 μm or less.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic wave oscillator 10 is constituted of a rectangular parallelepiped superconducting strip 11 in which a hole 12 is bored, and a DC current source 13. The width of the superconducting strip 11 in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction is 1 μm or less, preferably about several hundreds nm. The superconducting strip 11 has a thickness sufficiently thinner than the width, and a length equal to several times or more of the width. The hole 12 has a diameter that is desirably about a fraction of the width of the superconducting strip 11, and is bored at an asymmetric position or a symmetric position in the width direction. The DC current source 13 feeds a DC bias current from one end of the superconducting strip 11 along the longitudinal direction thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
