The present invention relates to a scintillator, a met3e and application of the scintillator. The scintillator according to the present invention comprises: a matrix comprising thallium, at least one alkaline earth metal element and at least one halogen element; and an activating agent doped to the matrix. The scintillator is represented by the chemical formula of Tl_aA_bB_c:yEu, wherein A is an alkaline earth metal element; B is a halogen element; a=1, b=2, c=5 or a=1, b=1, c=3; and y is 0 mol% - 50 mol%. The scintillator uses Tl having an atomic number of 81 as a main ingredient of matrix to show high detection efficiency to gamma rays, and includes Eu added thereto as an activating agent to show excellent scintillation characteristics with a high light output. |
