The invention relates to blockers of hemichannels for the treatment of epilepsy. In particular, the invention relates to organic compounds that act as selective inhibitors of hemichannels formed by connexins and which are useful in the the treatment of epilepsy. In another embodiment of the invention, a composition is provided comprising selective inhibiting compounds of hemichannels formed by connexins useful in the treatment of epilepsy in combination with other anticonvulsant compounds.
