摘要 The "FERRIS LOAD-BEARING SHIMMY PLATE" is intended as an energy absorbing connector between a rigid foundation and a superstructure and has wide application in the mounting of heavy objects and entire buildings. Its design permits 360 degree horizontal thrust and reciprocal movement in a shear plane between a lower element attached to a foundation and an upper element attached to a superstructure in the event of an earthquake. Its design permits upward movement by ripping the shear bolts through the metal body or breaking the shear bolts off if the ground should rise as caused by an earthquake or massive explosion. Its design permits downward movement by deforming the opposed angles or ridges of the upper and lower elements of the unit if the ground should sink as caused by an earthquake or massive explosion. Its design will permit it to be installed in new construction in such a way that all of the concentrated loads of the superstructure will be supported by a sufficient number of the units. Its design will permit it to be installed in existing buildings using accepted construction practices of needling, underpinning and shoring, in such a way that all of the concentrated loads of the superstructure will be supported by a sufficient number of the units. Its design will permit it to be used as a mount for heavy tanks or equipment, trailers and mobile homes or other industrial applications.
