A journal bearing assembly comprises a bearing member 2 supporting a journal, and intermediate members 5 positioned between and slidable with respect to the bearing member 2 and a housing 4 to allow angular movement of the journal. Member 2 is of square external cross-section and has an inner sleeve 3, and outer layers 8 of dry lubricant. Intermediate members 5 each have a part-cylindrical inner surface engaging a respective groove in member 2, and a layer (9) of dry lubricant engaging an insert 10 in housing 4. The dry lubricant is of porous bronze impregnated with P.T.F.E. and the opposed sliding surfaces are of stainless steel, or Ni or Cr plated. Layers of asbestos are provided to support layers 3, 8, (9). A dowel locates one member 5. In Fig. 7 (not shown), a rocking member (20) replaces insert 10. |
