In fluid contact trays a closure member which is movable between a first position wherein it closes or partly closes the aperture in the tray and a second position in which fluid can readily pass through the aperture comprises a valve 2, Figs. 1 and 2, and a guide ring 1 fixed to, or integral with, the valve and adapted to extend through the aperture 3, the guide ring being provided around its periphery with a series of slotted perforations 5 for dispersing fluid passing up through the aperture in a more dense fluid carried by the tray. The ring may be formed integrally with the valve, e.g. Fig. 7, where there is a downwardly convergent portion 12a, 15a of the closure member connecting the periphery of the valve with the top of the ring. Stops may be provided to restrict movement of the member between the first and second positions, and may be metal strips 7, or bent portions .of the guide ring. The valve part of the closure member may have tooth-like perforations 2a on the periphery, and perforations 6 in the centre. The closure member may be made from stainless steel or work-hardened copper. |
