An image converter or amplifier tube is provided with circuitry enabling one or more focusing electrodes to be connected alternatively either to the photo-electric cathode or to the apertured anode to provide two fixed values of image magnification. The image converter tube shown comprises a photo-electric cathode in the form of a layer 3 on a dish 1 joined to a cup-shaped carrier 4 which is connected to a cylindrical electrode 5 forming part of the tube envelope. The wider opening of a funnel-shaped anode 11 is closed by a plate 14 carrying a fluorescent screen 13. Electrodes 15 and 16 are sealed through an insulating wall 9 which completes the envelope. Electrode 15 is at anode potential. With electrode 16 at cathode or anode potential respectively, equipotential planes are obtained as indicated by the lines 17 to the left and right respectively of the axis 7. |
