A readily connectible and disconnectible pipe coupling 10 comprises a socket member 12 receiving a plug member 11 having a shoulder 46 on the forward end of the plug member, a plurality of elongated detent members 20 disposed in slots 22 in the socket member 12, the locking sleeve 30 being slidable on member 12 between positions to either hold the detent members inwardly to engage the shoulder 46, as shown, or to allow the detents to release the shoulder. The members 20 extend chordally of the sleeve, and are arranged to move with a rolling action during engaging and disengaging movements. The detents are shaped to have line engagement with the abutting parts of the coupling, this line engagement changing to area engagement as the parts distort under high pressure within the pipe line. |
