A pump has a substantially spherical housing 1 with the impeller 2 arranged adjacent the inside surface thereof. The impeller draws in fluid through a cylindrical or convergent inlet conduit 5 and discharges it through an annular passage 6 containing guide blades 8, to outlets 9. Alternatively, the housing can have a large single outlet arranged adjacent the inlet 3 or concentrically surrounding the inlet 3. The impeller is driven by a motor 4 suspended from the pump housing by a member 16. Sealing rings 17 are pressed against a locking ring 18 by the pressure within the pump housing. The motor can be disconnected from the pump housing after removal of cover plate 19 and locking ring 18.
