[Also in Division D2] Copy papers are made by uniformly dispersing two pigments in a mixture including two liquids and a binder substance capable of forming a pressure-sensitive layer; the materials being so chosen that the first pigment can remain suspended in the mixture but not in the second liquid alone, the second pigment can remain suspended in the mixture and in the second liquid alone and the binder substance is dissolved in the liquids; preferentially removing the first liquid to precipitate the first pigment on to a substrate, and thereafter removing the second liquid to precipitate the second liquid. In the examples, compositions comprise: (I) cyclohexane, methanol, microcrystalline wax, zinc oxide, kaolin, carbon black and polyglycol; (II) toluene, acetone, ethanol, spermaceti wax, carbon black, lithopone, acrylic resin and chloroform; (III) xylene, isopropanol, stearyl alcohol, cadmium stearate, magnetic pigment and titanium white; (IV) carbon black, sorbitol, benzene, methanol, stearic acid, calcium palmitate and lithopone; (V) ethanol, xylene, hydrogenated castor oil, titanium white, calcium carbonate, mercury sulphide and ketone resin; (VI) carbon black, diglycol stearate, methanol, trichlorethylene, 12-hydroxystearic acid, lithopone, kaolin and titanium white; (VII) carbon black, methanol, methylene chloride, 12-hydroxystearyl alcohol, titanium white, kaolin and lithopone; (VIII) carbon black, titanium white, polyvinyl acetate, methylene chloride, acetone and stearanilide; (IX) carbon black, titanium white, kaolin, polystyrene, dioctyl phthalate, hydrogenated castor oil, benzene and dioxane; (X) carbon black, lithopone, nitrocellulose, castor oil, cetyl alcohol, methylene chloride, acetone and methanol; (XI) carbon black, titanium white, ethylcellulose ricinoleic acid, behenyl alcohol, methylene chloride, and ethanol, (XII) carbon black, lithopone, kaolin, stearyl alcohol, methylene chloride, ethanol and isopropanol, and (XIII) carbon black, " lithol light yellow " pigment, hexane, dioxane and behenic acid. The Specification includes tests of other suitable pigments, solvents, binder substances, auxiliary binding agents and softeners.
