Well pipe, surface pipe, tanks, coolers are protected from deposited build-up by an additive composed of one polyphosphate ester or of a salt of such an ester of formula:- (where R = H or C13H27O-(C2H4O)n-1 -C2H4-; n = 1-3; m = 2 or 3; no. of R gps. that = H is not > m; mol. wt. =750 - 1730). The pH of the solution used should be 7, working with phosphate ester 0.005 to 0.01% by weight. The phosphate ester should be applied using alkaline water, eg formation water where available, and the solution should be heated to 41-80 degrees C for best effect.
