A suction cleaning machine has a casing 1, mounted for example on vertically adjustable rollers and castors 8, 9 and carrying a motorsuction fan unit 4, oppositely rotatable brushes 6, and a mounting 17 for different components which enable the machine to be used for suction cleaning, spray-cleaning or disinfecting, and shampooing or powder-cleaning of carpets and other surfaces. When the machine is used for suction cleaning the mounting 17 carries a coarse dirt receptacle 18 into which air laden with dirt raised by the brushes 6 is drawn by the fan. A coarse filter retains the coarse dirt in the receptacle 18 whilst air carrying fine dust passes through a hose 10 to a dust bag 22, the filtered air then passing via a hose 12 Fig. 4 (not shown) to the fan. For shampooing carpets the dirt receptacle 18 is replaced by a foam generator (24), Fig. 2 (not shown) which is coupled to the exhaust outlet from the fan. The foam is fed to the carpet by the brushes 6 which are rotated in directions opposite to their directions of rotation during suction cleaning. To the rear of the foam generator is a suction nozzle coupled to the hose 10 and through which used foam is withdrawn and passed to a separator 11. When the machine is used for spraying cleaning or disinfecting liquid a sprayer (30), Fig. 3 (not shown) is mounted above the coarse dirt receptacle 18. |
