摘要 1278978 Light metal-sulphur organic electrolyte cell P R MALLORY & CO Inc 12 Nov 1969 [13 Nov 1968] 55428/69 Heading H1B An electric cell comprises a light metal anode, e.g. Li, Na, Mg, Ca, Be, Al, a cathode containing sulphur as the active material, an electrolyte comprising an organic solvent and a salt and a microporous permselective barrier separating the cathode and the electrolyte in the form of an ion-exchange membrane which may be cationic or anionic or both depending on the nature of the ionic species whose migration is to be inhibited. In general the membrane used comprises a cross-linked polystyrene polymer which is sulphonated or carboxylated for a cationic exchange membrane or which is aminated for an anionic exchange membrane. The electrolyte salt preferably comprises light metal or ammonium cations and tetrafluoroborate, tetrachloroaluminate, perchlorate or chloride anions. Suitable organic solvents comprise propylene carbonate, gamma-butyrolactone, tetrahydrofuran, dimethyl formamide and dimethyl sulphoxide which can be used individually or in admixture with each other or with ethylene carbonate, acetonitrile and methyl or butyl formate. In the preferred embodiment the immigration of polysulphide anions from a sulphur cathode 14to a lithium anode 12 is reduced by using cation exchange membrane 18 which has functional sulphonate groups and which incorporates a concentration of lithium counter cations which is greater than the concentration of Li<SP>+</SP> in the LiClO 4 -THF electrolyte 16.
