Multicoloured acrylic fibre textile materials are prepared by dyeing a first textile acrylic fibre containing acidic groups but free of basic groups with a 1:2 premetallised acid dye from a bath containing a water-soluble mono- or divalent metal or an ammonium salt or a mixture of such salts at at least 100‹C., combining the thus dyed textile material with a second textile material formed from an undyed acrylic fibre containing acidic groups but not basic groups and dyeing the resulting textile with a cationic or disperse dye or optical brightener which dyes the second fabric a different colour from the first. The first acrylic fibre is preferably dyed at 100-130‹C. with ¢% of divalent metal salt or 1% of monovalent metal or ammonium salt preferably at least 1/5% of premetallised dye is used. |
