Semi-conducting compositions comprise (a) 10 to 60 weight per cent of a copolymer of ethylene and an α,#-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, (b) 10 to 40 weight per cent of a copolymer of ethylene and an unsaturated ester of a carboxylic acid, and (c) 5 to 50 weight per cent of an electrically conductive carbon black in the form of elongated particles. The copolymers may be derived from acrylic, methacrylic, ethacrylic, maleic, fumaric or itaconic acid; and methyl, ethyl, isobutyl or 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, methyl or ethyl methacrylate, propyl ethacrylate, or a vinyl carboxylate. The compositions may be used to provide electric cables with an outer conducting jacket. An example describes a composition of ethylene/ acrylic acid and ethylene/ethyl acrylate copolymers, carbon black and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thio-bis-(3-t.- butyl-5-methylphenol). |
