1,150,075. Foam cored building panel. H. H. ROBERTSON CO. 29 March, 1967 [16 April, 1966; 2 Feb., 1967], Nos. 16790/66 and 5074/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Division E1] A method of making a composite building panel comprises applying a predetermined amount of foaming plastics composition, e.g. polyurethane from spraying station 65 to the upper surface of a first sheet 10; delivering the resultant product with the plastics composition actively foaming to a panel assembly station 66, applying a profiled second sheet 15, e.g. of metal to the first sheet with the foaming plastics composition between the two sheets and retaining the sheets in juxtaposition, e.g. by rolls 67 until active foaming ceases, the said predetermined amount of foaming plastics composition being less than that required to fill all of the space between the sheets, whereby the inner surface of said profiled sheet 15 engages the foamed plastics composition 20 over less than its entire area and expansion spaces 21 are provided adjacent to said profiled sheet. The first sheet may comprise metal supplied from coil 61 and cut by guillotine 62, plasterboards supplied from stack 70 by conveyer 71 or asbestos felt supplied from coil 80, shaped at station 82 to provide side walls to enclose the longitudinal edges of the panel and cut by guillotine 83. The sheet 15 may be longer than sheet 10 and the longitudinal edges of the sheets may be provided with flanges for interconnection of panels. |
