[Also in Division C3] Compounds have the general formula in which R is unsubstituted phenylene, methyl substituted phenylene, dimethyldiphenylene, methylenediphenylene or dimethoxydiphenylene; R is methyl or hydroxyethyl. They are prepared by reaction of a diisocyanate with the appropriate secondary amine. Examples include: (1) 1,1<SP>1</SP> - (4 - methyl - m - phenylene)- bis - [3,3 - dimethylurea] obtained by reaction of dimethylamine with 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate in anhydrous benzene. (2) A similar mixed isomer product obtained by reacting dimethylamine with an 80/20 mixture of 2,4- and 2,6- tolylene diisocyanates. 1,1<SP>1</SP>(4-methyl-mphenylene) - bis - [3,3 - aziridinylurea] and N,N<SP>1</SP> - (4 - methyl - m - phenylene) - bis - [1- piperidine carboxamide] are similarly prepared using ethylene imine and piperidine respectively. |
