A portable stand for a drill 65 includes a base 11, an elongate guide post 27 having one end connected thereto, a carriage assembly 40 releasably engaged with the post for movement therealong, the carriage assembly being removable laterally from the post, and means cooperating between the post and carriage for causing movement of the latter along the post. The carriage assembly comprises a slide 41 engaged for sliding movement relative to the post 27 and a door 42 hinged thereto as at 45 and lockable as by nuts 49 in a closed position (as shown) in which a pinion 58, forming part of the door, engages with a rack 56 on the post,the pinion being keyed to a shaft 61, a portion 63 of which projects from the door enabling its rotation by a wrench to move the carriage along the post 27. Wear pads 44, 45 on the carriage are provided to reduce wear of the post. Motor 65, which may be electric or pneumatic, may be mounted directly to the carriage assembly 40, but preferably a motor support member 70 is used. The base 11 may incorporate levelling bolts 15. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the slide part (93) of the carriage assembly comprises the pinion for co-operation with the rack (91) formed on the forward face of the post, the post being provided with an extension (100) also formed with a rack. A coring tool (80) comprises a base (81) having a shank (82) and threaded to receive a drill sleeve (83) or an extension sleeve (84). The lower end of the drill sleeve carries cutting abrasive (85) around its periphery. |
