1333601 Methallylsulphonic acid salts BAYER AG 8 Dec 1970 [27 Dec 1969] 58217/70 Heading C2C A solution of a salt of methallylsulphonic acid is prepared by reacting an addition compound obtained from substantially stoichiometric quantities of sulphur trioxide and a complex former consisting of an N,N-dialkyl substituted carbonamide, an N-acyl azacycloalkane, an N-alkyl substituted lactam, a tetraalkyl urea, an N,N<SP>1</SP>- carbonyl bis-azacyclo alkane or an N,N<SP>1</SP>-dialkyl- 2-imidazolidinone with at least 1 mol. of isobutylene, based on 1 mol. of the sulphur trioxide, in an inert haloalkane which is immiscible with water as a solvent at a temperature of from -20‹ to 60‹ C.; and the resulting solution of methallylsulphonic acid is neutralized with an aqueous base to yield a solution of a salt of methallylsulphonic acid. The solvent may be removed before or after neutralization. The aqueous methallylsulphonate salt solution may be concentrated by evaporation under reduced pressure or by spray-drying. |
