Resonant noise from hollow machine bases is reduced by filling the hollow spaces with pref. polyurethane which is foamed around roughly fitted pieces of pref. mineral wool sound absorbant which are placed in during foaming. Further plastics is then added to fill the space. Pref. at least the larger cavities one covered over during foaming or solidification with plates treated with a release agent.
