The invention comprises dyes of the formula where R1 is a benzene sulphonyl radical, R is H, methyl or ethyl, X and Y are H, halogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy and alkylene is methylene or ethylene. The compounds are prepared by reacting 1-amino-4-bromo-anthra-quinone-2-sulphonic acid either with a compound of the formula where Ar is an optionally substituted benzene radical, or with a compound of the formula and subsequently acylating the product with a sulphonic acid of the benzene series.
