A foundation 1, 2 for a building erected on ground having a variable water table is provided with a chamber 8 which communicates with the water level through foundation packing, such as pebbles 7, and has its level 9 maintained constant by a pump 10 and an overflow 13. The slab 2 has a water-tight skirt 5 and is surrounded by sheeting 3 with which it may define the storage chamber, see Fig. 2 (not shown). |
