1358313 Cladding panels A FELIX 19 April 1971 [10 April 1970] 26529/71 Headings E1K and E1W A pair of co-engaging covering members for cladding a pillar, a wall, or a window frame consists of a first member e.g. a panel 9, 10 or 16, 17 having on the surface facing the structure to be clad a dovetail groove 3 along at least one edge of the panel, at least one pair of projections 2 running parallel to the panel edge and adapted to engage over locating studs 11 on the structure to be clad, and a groove 4 along the base of the projections on the same side as the dovetail groove, and a second member which is one of (a) a panel 12, 13 or 19 comprising a rigid flange 14 or 23 at one edge which cooperates in use with the dovetail groove 3 of the first member and a flexible flange 15 or 24 shaped to engage the groove 4 so that the rigid flange is held in the side of the groove 3 nearer the adjacent edge of the first member; (b) a similarly designed bar 19, 37 or 18 (Fig. 4) or 44 (Fig. 6 not shown); or (c) a cladding bar 33 having a V-cross section concave to the outer surface with a pair of flexible flanges 34 extending from the apex of the V and lateral extensions 35 from the outer ends of the V adapted to contact the edges adjacent the dovetail grooves of the first panels 16, 17. Fig. 3 shows two pairs of symmetrical panels 9, 12 and 10, 13 cladding a pillar formed by a H-section girder 6 with welded-on angle members 7 carrying locating studs 11; Fig. 4 shows a wall, e.g. of marble or stone blocks or wood, clad by panels 16, 17 joined by a cladding bar 18; Fig. 5 shows a plate 32, e.g. a window frame upright clad with panels 16, 17 joined by a V-section cladding bar 33; while Fig. 6 (not shown) shows a similar arrangement with the panels joined by a channel section cladding bar (44). Resilient seals 26, 40 engaging infill panels 27, 41, e.g. of wood or glass bedded with mastic putty 28, 43, may be located in housing 25, 39 while the dovetail groove of a first panel 16, 17 may also be employed to locate a resilient glazing strip (40, Fig. 6 not shown). |
