1,178,084. Polyamides. W. R. GRACE & CO. 17 June, 1968 [20 Sept., 1967], No. 28779/68. Heading C3R. Polyamides having the recurring structural unit are obtained by reacting the compound with an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic primary or secondary diamine of which R is the N,N<SP>1</SP>-divalent residue of the amidation reaction. Several diamines are mentioned, the following being used in specific examples: ethylene, hexamethylene and o-, m- and p-phenylene diamines and piperazine. The products from the alkylene diamines and piperazine are stated to be hygroscopic and useful as water-soluble adhesives while those from phenylene diamines are slightly water - soluble and useful for making moulded decorative articles. The products may be modified by incorporating comonomers or dyes, pigments, fibres or other polymers. |
