1,269,795. Gas mixture separation apparatus. HYDROCARBON RESEARCH Inc. 28 April, 1969 [15 Oct., 1968], No. 21437/69. Heading F4P. A double column 10, 14 for separating a gas mixture e.g. rectifying air or purifying hydrogen serves to support accessory equipment 18, 26, e.g. heat exchangers, a hydrocarbon absorber, a compressor and an expansion turbine and is itself supported by a lower skirt 15 secured to a circular bass-plate 12 and by an upper skirt 34 guided by bolts 40 secured to and projecting down from an upper circular plate 38, the plates 12, 38 being of equal diameter greater than the width of the column and its accessories and serving as end plates of a surrounding shell 42 within which is placed particulate heat insulation material. During the assembly of the accessories and of shell 42 the column is mounted horizontally as shown in Fig. 4 with the end plates 12, 38 mounted on roller tables 44; plate 38 temporarily being rigidly secured to the upper skirt. Fig. 6 (not shown) discloses a conventional compressed air separation circuit whilst Fig. 7 (not shown) discloses a conventional circuit for separating hydrocarbon from a crude hydrogen stream. |
