<p>Metals are electro-slag remelted using an a.c. current and by establishing a d.c. arc between a number of non consumable electrodes (I) and the slag surfaces, the ingot being maintained at a negative potential in relation to (I). The method reduces electrode cooling requirements and power consumption, and avoids polluting the slag with electrode material e.g. graphite, W or Mo.</p> |
