Centrifugally cast cylinder liners are made from a cast iron containing 4-5.5% Si, 0.6-1.2% Mn, 0.5-0.7% P with an addition of Mg. The metal is cast at between 1250-1450 degrees C. The alloy has improved wear resistance compared with the usual cast iron used. As a result of the low casting temps., the casting dies have an extended service life.
