1447006 Mixing apparatus COLGATEPALMOLIVE Co 20 May 1974 [23 May 1973] 22442/74 Heading B1C In an apparatus and method for melting a particulate material (e.g. detergent powder) the latter falls on a slinger disc 26 and is projected as a falling annular curtain. Liquid is supplied to a slinger disc 28 by which it is projected to intersect the curtain; as shown the disc has an apertured rim 29 so that part at least of the liquid first forms a film on the underside 30 of disc 26, but the rim 29 may be dispensed with (see Fig. 2, not shown) or the disc 28 positioned far enough below disc 26 for the liquid to be projected directly on to the curtain. The mixture falls on aperture 19 on to a rotating distributing cam 23 and thence through the outlet 20. The base of the distributing core may have an upturned rim 106, Fig. 4. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 there is a double conical baffle 59, 62 between which is a feed tube 66 for additional particulate material which is distributed round the space 64 by air blast nozzles as at 68. The mixture thence falls on an additional slinger disc 97 and baffle 72, providing three mixing zones 110, 111, 112. The discs 88, 92 are mounted in fixed spacing on a sleeve 94 axially adjustable along shaft 83, as are disc 97 and distributing cone 102. There may be ports 69, 71, 74, 75 for access, inspection or admission of additional materials. |
