<p>The friction coupling assembly connects two concentric shafts. The driving ring is formed by two tapered friction faces which produce a concave internal groove. The coupling disc consists of two parallel plates whose outside tapers match the drive ring tapers. A pneumatic ring tube is placed between the two halves of the coupling disc. When the coupling is engaged, the ring tube is pressurized such that the coupling disc expands axially until torque cna be transmitted by the function tapers. Similar internal tapers on the coupling ring are in friction contact with stationary convex tapers when the ring tube is depressurized, thus it acts as a brake.</p> |
