<p>1529769 Infusion apparatus G CHARVIN 9 June 1977 [9 June 1976] 24159/77 Heading A5R An infusion assembly for infusing liquids other than blood into a vein, comprises a hollow hypodermic needle 3 mounted at one end of a first hub portion 4a, and a membrane 1 which is permeable to air, impermeable to blood, and permeable to the liquid to be administered, membrane 1 being held between first hub portion 4a and a second hub portion 4 which has a frusto-conical internal surface for receiving the male end of a liquid-administering device. Membrane 1 may be a textile or wire gauze having meshes of 5-30 microns and is preferably treated at least on the surface facing the needle with heparin, p.t.f.e. or a silicone. The rigid needle may be provided with a flexible portion or be replaced by a flexible tube for use with a removable stylet in which case the hub has two branches, the membrane being provided in one branch, Figs. 4-6 (not shown). The membrane may be provided in a removable adapter for use with a conventional infusion needle, Figs. 7-10 (not shown).</p> |
