The machine places bands (2) covered on one of their faces with a thermo-fusible material, such as bitumen, on a slab or art work. The machine has a chassis (4) supporting the motor (6) and guides (8) for its displacement. There is a roll of band (10) and a heating cylinder (12) along which the band runs to be heated prior to its placing on the slab. The heating cylinder is located in the bottom zone of the machine and a pressure roller (16) presses the heated band against the slab. A band loading and gripping system, which holds the band against the heating cylinder, is inserted between the roll and the heating cylinder. The gripping part, shaped as a stirrup, is formed from a beam (24) extending transverse to the axis (5) of machine displacement, and two uprights (26) which are pivoted (28) on the chassis.
