PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a card reader at a high density capacity by providing the card reader with a head assembly moving in the longitudinal direction of a magnetic card, providing a turn table rotationally driven by the head assembly with magnetic heads and recording and reproducing information via these magnetic heads and a rotary transformer. CONSTITUTION:This card reader is provided with the head assembly which moves relatively in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic card 1a. The magnetic heads 13a, 13b are fixed to the turn table and are rotated in the head assembly. The rotary transformer held in the rotary transformer is housed in the head assembly and supplies writing signals from its rotating section to the magnetic heads 13a, 13b or receives reading-out signals from the magnetic heads 13a, 13b and interfaces these signals to a recording and reproducing circuit in its stationary section. The recording and reproducing circuit records or reproduces information to or from the plural recording and reproducing tracks on the arc of the magnetic card 1a. |
